Picnics “Family for every child” is a national series of public events of the Kateryna Osadchyi Foundation, aimed at developing family forms of education and supporting children who grow up without parental care in Ukraine.

The project is implemented in partnership with UNICEF and the Coordination Center for the Development of Family Education and is part of a systemic transformation of the childcare system — the transition from institutional forms to the family environment.

The geography of the project covers various cities of Ukraine, in particular Mukachevo, Khmelnytskyi, Nikolaev, Odessa and Kiev, which allows local communities to be involved in the development and support of family forms of education.

Each picnic is an open space for dialogue between the state, communities, social services, foster families and potential adopters. The events include expert consultations, public talks, family stories, as well as interactive formats for children and adults, helping to break down stereotypes and reduce barriers around the topic of adoption.

Each event gathers an average of about 300 participants, including social professionals, guardians, foster families and people who are just considering becoming parents for a child deprived of family care.

In Kyiv, the event took place in the context of a systemic call: more than 2,000 orphans and children deprived of parental care are registered in the city. Although most of them are already raised in family forms, some children still need a family and a stable family environment.

The project works not only as a series of events, but as an instrument of social change. It forms a new culture of responsible parenting, strengthens trust in family forms of education and promotes that more children in Ukraine grow up in families rather than in institutional institutions.

“A Family for Every Child” is about a systemic change in approach to childhood, where every child has the right to a family, care and a safe environment for development.
